Title: Fingal of Caledonia
Post by: Jacquetta on February 16, 2013, 05:57:53 pm
I was asked for advice recently by some walkers who wanted to cover the whole Great Glen Way but didn't fancy the long, long haul of 20 miles from Drum to Inverness, nor the various workarounds for splitting it: see a related post (,1134.msg6360.html#msg6360). Casting around for a solution, I remembered about Fingal of Caledonia ( - a converted Dutch barge.

Its Walk the Great Glen ( holidays allow you to split the distances conveniently from a floating base, with the walk from Drum to Dochgarroch being only 15 miles. Their route normally runs between Corpach and Clachnaharry Sea Locks but they can accommodate purists who wish to walk the entire official Great Glen Way. At first sight, the prices may seem high but once you reflect that it includes all accommodation, food and transfers for the week it is surprisingly reasonable. No wonder their cabins often get booked early. To check prices and availability for 2013, check their schedule ( or phone 01397 772167.
