Hey, all you hikers
We've spent quite a few hours putting an accurate route overlay for the Great Glen Way on Google Maps.  Please have a look here and tell us if it's useful, what other features you would like to see, and if there are any places where the route needs more tweaks.

Be sure to zoom in all the way, and be sure to try the satellite view as well as terrain!
Thanks, Jacquetta

Hi Jacquetta,

Another excellent addition. Some of the satellite images are not as focussed as on the WWH e.g. around Drumnadrochit but that's the map not your efforts.

Just a possible few pins for points of interest and one key location:
A lot of walkers use Spean Bridge as an initial overnight (maybe using accommodation provided taxi services - we walked to Spean Bridge from Gairlochy but used the taxi service back the following morning) - be worth identifying so that local accommodation can be easily searched for. The reason for going to Spean Bridge was to see the 'Commando Memorial' - worth a pin especially as you pin Achnacarry.

A few other offerings - another castle early on at Inverlochy (easy to miss at Soldier's Bridge), Moy Swing Bridge and the Bridge of Oich at Aberchalder (Aberchalder itself shown but not a pin for the bridge).  There are some great photos of places on the walk on Undiscovered Scotland.

Well done again,
Roy

Thanks for the useful feedback, Roy, and these pins have just been added.  I nearly added Bridge of Oich first time around, then thought it was too near Kytra Lock.  If users find it hard to click the right pin, they just need to zoom in until they separate out.  And you're right about Old Inverlochy Castle: despite the low resolution satellite photography, if you zoom in all the way you can see its four circular towers even more clearly than from ground level. Cool

Thanks for looking, and for seeing the potential of "search nearby".  I just hope that people who use it can navigate back to our website afterwards!  The trouble with Google Maps is that it can be such an engrossing tool that you forget why you logged on in the first place Sad
