We're planning on walking the Speyside Way next year, perhaps starting the 3rd week of May.  I'm looking at the Rucksack Reader guidebook from 2007 and there's mention of an extension via the Badenoch Way between Newtonmore and Aviemore.  Has this become an official part of the Speyside Way yet?

Our plan is to do the route from SW to NE, including the Tomintoul spur.  We'd welcome suggestions of places to stay or eat en route:  I've taken a look at the official listing of lodging on the Speyside Way official site, but more knowledge is always good!

Cheers,

Unfortunately I cannot answer your question re the extension to the Way. I was in Kingussie and Aviemore last weekend and asked myself the same question. That part of the Spey valley is badly flooded just now. I have looked at the official web site and there is no mention of the extension having been opened.

However on the question of accommodation, see my post (BSmyth) of 19 June 2007 and Ian B's of 10 May 2007 re suggestions for accommodation. under the sub section "Speyside Way". Things can change over 3 years especially when you have a credit crunch but I would suggest these places are a good starting point for you.
I hope you get decent weather as I am sure you will enjoy the walk and the hospitality.
Good luck

Have been looking at completing the Speyside Way in the near future. Found an interesting 'advice' proposal from Scottish National Heritage on the extension to the route

May be of interest.

Roy
