Hi, I'm thinking of trying to walk the whole trail with a friend in 24 hours in the last week of September, with a support crew.

Can anyone advise on how much of a problem midgies would be at this time of year?  Thanks.

Hi James

The midge population declines during September, and by the last week in Perthshire they shouldn't be too much of a problem at all.

Take some decent repellent with you, and unless you're hyper-sensitive to them (or very unlucky) you should be fine.

Good luck with the trail.

Thanks Dan - any idea about clegs / horse-flies, and how much of a problem these are? Not that I'm phobic about insects, but it's good to know what you might be bitten by!

As for midgies, the problem has literally died down by late September, James.  Clegs and midgies target me, but the east of Scotland has nothing like the problem of the west coast.

Anyway, you'll be moving so fast they won't be able to keep up! Cheesy
