Sightsavers' (www.sightsavers.org) vision is a world where no-one is blind from avoidable causes and where visually impaired people participate equally in society. We are an international organisation working with partners in 34 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Caribbean to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people

We are delighted to have been selected as the international charity partner for the 2009 Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge (www.robroychallenge.com) which takes place on Saturday 20th June, and covers 55 miles of the spectacular Rob Roy Way in Scotland.

We are seeking volunteer marshals to help with the smooth running of the event by assisting with the handing out water and food, directing the participants, etc.

Why be a marshal?

 Play a key part in a major fundraising event
 Special signed certificate of recognition
 Great way to see this spectacular part of Scotland, and meet like-minded people
 Free entry to the huge post-event party
 Goody bag with T-shirt, mug and complimentary items
 No previous experience needed and lots of guidance given

Here's a quick guide to the route

 Drymen  Aberfoyle  Callander  Balquhidder  Killin  Kenmore

Marshal’s guide

At each checkpoint, there will be a Volunteer Marshal Manager who will get in touch with you before the event to ensure you are fully prepared. At the event itself, they will assign you your job, tell you what you need to do, answer any questions you may have, and handle any problems that might arise.  The Volunteer Marshal Managers in turn will be briefed by the Chief Marshal who will be heading a team of professional marshals who will undertake the higher risk roles such as directing traffic on public roads.

At all the main checkpoints there will be qualified first aiders and on later checkpoints there will also be physiotherapists to help participants with injuries.  Marshals on early checkpoints can also, if they are able, choose to do a late checkpoint (e.g. volunteers at Checkpoint 1 could also double as marshals at the finish). All Marshals are welcome to finish of this fun and exciting day by joining in with the party at Kenmore!
