Claonaig to Clachan path re-opens

The path is now open again. A new bridge over the Larachmor Burn is due to be installed in October but until then walkers should be aware that the Burn may become impassable after heavy rain. Other good news is that work on a new path is due to start in Clachan Glen. After the wet summer the Glen has become increasingly muddy and difficult but the new path should make life much easier for all concerned.

Thanks for all your very useful updates. We are planning to walk the Kintyre Way in early summer of this year so I'll be checking the forum for confirmation that the bridge and new path are in place. Anything new since September?

We have just completed the Kintyre Way as far as Campbeltown. We were extremely happy with the standard of the new path over the moor which made our progress considerably easier - however, the bridge has not yet been built although there is a pile of new timber on one side of the burn. We did manage to get across OK since the level of water was not too high but it could cause problems to other people after a lot of rain. Walking poles help as the stones in the bed of the burn are extremely slippery. Don't try to find an easier place to cross upstream as there isn't one! And don't try to throw your rucksack on to the other bank. We heard of one unfortunate Kintyre Way walker last year whose bag fell into the burn, floated away and was never seen again.

That's brilliant news, Owen, thanks for updating us. No more excuses, we should all get out there and hike it!

I walked this on March 26. A forestry commission crew was building a new bridge over Larachmore Burn (probably finished in 2-3 working days).
