Rennie McOwan is a distinguished writer and broadcaster who has published many books and articles. He wrote three further books featuring the same children that appear in Light on Dumyat: "The White Stag Adventure", "The Day the Mountain Moved" and "Jewels on the Move".

Rennie has spoken in many Scottish primary schools, where his books were widely adopted for their educational value. Many schools also use his two factual books for children: "Robert Burns for Beginners" and "Saint Andrew for Beginners". He wrote an essay on Dumyat in the anthology Call of the Wild which you can read here.

Rennie is a founder member and Honorary President of the Friends of the Ochils, and of Stirling Literary Society. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Stirling (1996), the Outdoor Writer's Guild's Golden Eagle Award for access campaigning and outdoor writing (1997) and the Provost of Stirling's Civic Award (Arts and Culture) in 1998. He still lives in Stirling.
