Fiona Barltrop

Fiona Barltrop first hiked the then 80-mile South Downs Way as a fledgling long-distance walker over three decades ago. Despite the exhaustion and blisters by the end of her four-day expedition, she’d caught the walking bug. Over the years, she gradually completed other long distance paths – including Offa’s Dyke Path, Pembrokeshire Coast Path, South West Coast Path.

Since the 1990s, she has been working as a freelance outdoor writer and photographer, contributing regularly to walking and other outdoor magazines. Walking remains an abiding passion, with the South Downs – not far from her Sussex home – her much-loved local tramping ground.
